Welcome to Rockingham Choral Society - Interim Director search information

Our current director Kristofer T. Johnson Is taking the next year off from his duties as RCS Director to focus on personal matters. As a result, we are in the process of searching for a new Music Director to begin in the Fall Semester 2025. This position is being offered as an interim position for the 25-26 season but may develop into a permanent one. We are excited about our future and look forward to meeting prospective candidates for the position. The board will consider all resumes submitted.

 For over 67 years, RCS has provided the gift of music and song to singers, instrumentalists and the greater Rockingham County area. Over the years we have been fortunate to work under the direction of some extremely talented and professional conductors including founding director UNH professor John D. Wicks; A. Irving Forbes, Music Dept. chair at Phillips Exeter; Dr. Henry Wing, director from 1978 to 2008, Professor Emeritus at UNH, Andrew Gaydos from 2008 until 2018 followed by Dr. Alex T. Favazza Jr. until 2022. They brought incredible knowledge of, and experience with, choral music and a genuine love for their craft and have largely been responsible for the success of RCS over so many decades.

The Rockingham Choral Society is an auditioned group performing a variety of choral works ranging from Broadway musicals to Gilbert and Sullivan operettas to the great master works. Our most recent concert this spring, features the Bruckner Requiem and the Missa Adolorata, a piece not performed by anyone since the 1700’s by Antonio Caldara after being edited by one of our own members, Sebastian Tsai. 

Our tradition has been to choose soloists from the membership. Since coming out of the pandemic years,, our group has grown, both in numbers and financial strength. Rehearsals are held Tuesday evenings from 7-9PM in Exeter NH at the Exeter High School.

In addition, our organization succeeds because of strong leadership from our Board of Directors and from the talent and dedication of our hard-working and loyal membership. We love to sing, to practice, and to perform! Members often share that RCS fills a place in their lives that nothing else does. That is music to our ears!
